Player Directory
In order to facilitate the participation of tennis players in competitions with those of similar ability Munster Branch has set up and maintains a system of grading players. The current system has 7 different grades from 7 (beginner) up to grade 1. Players move up the grades on the basis of their performance in various competitions. There are over 6000 registered players in the current directory. The Branch has a sub-committee which is dedicated to keeping the directory as up-to-date as possible. With hundreds of matches in a large number of competitions to be monitored this is a huge undertaking. The “Current Directory” page contains the actual directory with links to the Directory Rules etc.
Almost all of this work is currently being done manually. It is hoped to introduce a new automated system – ITN, International Tennis Number – over the next year or so. This will substantially reduce the workload associated with maintaining this register. In addition because the ITN is to be used nationwide it will facilitate players entering tournaments in other provinces in the grade most appropriate to their ability.
